How to Start and Stick to Your own Early Morning Routine

Let's face it, mornings aren't for everyone! Between getting ready, catching up on the morning emails and maybe squeezing in an early workout, most mornings feel like a complete whirlwind rather than a relaxing start to your day.

But it doesn't have to be that hard, especially when you consider how great you will feel once settling into your own morning routine. You’ll feel less rushed and more importantly, feel more prepared for the day ahead.

Regularly Scheduled Breakfast

Whether you choose to eat at 8am everyday or that you must eat within an hour of waking up, setting a time for breakfast means you are more likely to stick with it. Plus, new research has shown that having meals at the same time everyday has more of an impact than originally thought and those who eat on a more random schedule are more likely to be obese. 

Family Breakfast

Some of your most important memories are made while enjoying a meal, why shouldn’t that meal be breakfast? Even though it may seem impossible to gather everyone around the table during the week, start by trying this new routine over the weekend. Prepare a family favorite breakfast dish and consider implementing a “no-phone rule” so that everyone’s focus is on the time spent together. Once you’ve mastered the weekend family breakfast, see if there is one day a week everyone can carve out 15 extra minutes to sit and enjoy their meal. 

Team Breakfast

Similar to a family breakfast routine, offering your employees an ongoing breakfast has many positive benefits and can help everyone get their day started on the right foot. Try to make this time together also a tech-free zone where employees can discuss both personal events (i.e. best part of their weekend) and latest work accomplishments.

Warm Lemon Water

While you sleep, your digestive system takes this time to slow down and repair itself. Rather than startling it in the morning either by a big breakfast or coffee on an empty stomach, help warm it up first with a cup of warm lemon water. Simply squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a mug and pour in warm (not hot) water. Starting your day like this will help you stay hydrated as well as some other great benefits for your body and skin! 

Morning Stretches

For many, a morning workout sounds like the next best thing after a root canal but even a few stretches in bed can help get your day off on the right foot. Aside from relieving muscle tension, stretching also helps circulation and alertness which is just what you need before that cup of coffee!
